What do you think about the new oil price gouging law?

A law just passed the house that would impose heavy fines on oil companies for price gouging. What do you think about the new oil price gouging law?
I don't think it's going to do anything because they aren't gouging... it's all a fear induced speculation... but it's the way the market is set up...

These guys know it's not gouging... they just want to put this out there for the people that think it's gouging... it's not about what's really happening... it's about what people think is happening...What do you think about the new oil price gouging law?
Look at history. Any attempt at price control of any commodity leads to shortages. Simply taking money from the oil companies wouldn't make gas any cheaper. The only effect would be to further enrich the government. Even if the government turns around and gives us a gas rebate check, it still requires a vast bureaucracy to mail out all the checks (the rebate bill that just got squashed in the Senate would have sent a $100 check to 100 million people. That's a lot of letters). Such an action would have no positive effect on prices whatsoever.
i think its the dumb people in congress just pandering and appeasing to the left-wing kooks like teddy the swimmer and his little gang of kooks.
I want to impeach the President and start the indictment proceedings. A new Congress will fix these problems, and a new President will regulate the market, like President Clinton did.
